[Illinois] Lake Shelbyville Bass Fishing 2017
« on: July 08, 2017, 04:53:17 PM »
Ok got up this morning and got out on the water by sun up . Water temps at around 80* and the wasn't any clouds in the sky so we could see the full moon. We were only going to be fishing for a couple of hours before it gets too hot cause I can't be out in the sun to long anymore. We spent about fifteen minutes trolling Erie Dearies with a night Crawler on them for Walleyes without any luck. It wa sgetting light enough to see by now so we put down the Walleye rigs and John hung his over the boat and started casting a top torpedo and I was throwing a 1/8oz Road Runner  with a 2" Mr. Twister in Chartreuse color. We were in about 8' of water and throwing up in to some flooded willow trees. I was surprised that I was able to pull the Road Runner through the Willow trees. You could feel the bait get caught in the top of the trees then pop out of them. After about an hour of throwing without any hits I looked over and saw the pole that John had hung over the side of the boat with the night crawler on it bending and bending. I yelled at John to get his pole. He was to busy watching the torpedo he had been throwing and didn't notice it bending. He caught a small Bass about 1 and 1/2 lbs on it.

Not to long after that when I poped my Roadrunner off another willow tree I set the hook on the only Bass I caught

John didn't get any bites on the torpedo so he tied on some sort of mouse bait and had a few follow it back to the boat but couldn't get them to take it. We moved to the spot back over by the railroad bridge and caught a few Crappie and a 2 lb drum perch but could't get the bass over there to bite. By this time it was time to get off the water and go hit the Blueberry fields. We will be back out here bright and early Monday morning to do it again.
