[Virginia] The bass are waking from their Long winter's Nap !
« on: March 23, 2018, 07:22:52 PM »
Hi Folks,

Mrs. Peel and I took the kayaks to Bear Creek State Park on Sunday. It was 58 degrees, sunny and light winds

We worked the bank and threw various T-rigged plastics in and amongst the stumps and downed timber.

I tied on a Chatterbait with a Bull Grass Devil trailer and fan casted off a point for a bit. On one retrieve a Nice 20 inch bass followed my lure all the way to the kayak and slammed the chatterbait just before I lifted it out of the water ! Exciting!

A little while later I moved into a small cove and T-rigged a cut down PTL Ribbon Hinge worm in plum color. I casted into some sticks and brush created by a beaver and hooked into a nice 18 inch bass.

It's good to see that that the bass are finally waking from their long winter's nap !

Santee has been delivering big bags for a few weeks now.  I see recent tournament events were you gotta have 30# + to win.  Last weekend there were 2 teams with over 30 and a whole bunch of folks way over 20.  Santee is notorious for delivering big bags in the spring.  Planning on fishing the Cooper River in a week or two as it too is infamous for big bass in the spring and is great bass water just about anytime but you have to be aware of the tides when fishing the Cooper.
