Well , Anna once again was a great and also bittersweet place to be , the trip started out with both sonars blitzing out on me , no means of seeing any fish although they would sometimes show me depth .
Water temps , none of it was accurate , one sonar said 68 , the other said 101 , I took a thermometer from the house and actually temps ranged from 78 to 85 , depending on how skinny or how deep you were fishing , water clarity ranged from stained to partly stained to clear , top of the lake , stained , mid lake partly stained , down lake , clear to roughly 6 feet .
My goal was to get a bag limit each time I was out , I had 4 hours each morning to get this done before I had to load up and head in to greet the wife and fix brunch , with no sonar I felt like , well , naked LOL !
9/8 , overcast and humid , I started with main lake points , looking for the rocky ones first , threw an arsenal of baits around these areas with very little to show for my efforts , I did fill a bag before 11 am but only an 8.4 , not what I wanted with near perfect conditions , most productive came with a top water bite on smaller lures , lesser the noise , the more strikes I would get , the evening I focused on just having fun with the wife and our dog on the boat , but used that time also to experiment and found a clue as to what they wanted .
9/9 , overcast and cooler temps , decided to go striper fishing , that worked out really well for an hour , I caught 10 decent stripers and decided to target the bass again , this time on secondary points with hard bottoms , not good , only 2 bass for 4.9 lbs , got back to the camper and the wife surprised me with a trip to bass pro shops , it was raining anyway , I ended up walking the isles and found the rage tail craws , green pumpkin red flake and green pumpkin , new seats for the boat too !! Got back on the water about an hour and half before sunset just to throw some baits around , finally dialed in on a plan and eager to go , I turned my focus on larger lay downs with deeper water near the top of the wood , pitching the outside first and working my way in was not even remotely productive , I re-rigged from a weightless presentation to a 3/16 weighted offset hook and a craw and swam it on top through the tight spots and along the outside perimeters , WHAMMO !! a nice hard fighting 3 pounder !! Unfortunately , I checked the weight and it wiggled it's way off the scale , landed on the deck and as I reached for the flailing fish it hit and knocked my Skeet Reese jigging rod overboard ( profanity deleted ) .
9/10 overcast and cooler conditions , went right to work looking for the same pattern , what a great morning it turned out to be , 17lbs. 5oz. In 3 and a half hours , lots of running to find the exact same stuff but well worth the effort , 22 fish in all , the afternoon and evening however did not produce as well since the wife wanted to try her luck at the dikes , ended up with 3 bass that evening with only a 6.9 , but it was a blast sharing it with her and our little dog , caught a couple of war mouths that he went nuts over , hope to share a video with y'all on one of them .
9/11 , periods of overcast and sun mixed , first stop was to give prayer to the innocent lost on this day and to pray for better days as we face the daunting challenges ahead .
Only 7 fish for 9.8 , yet still a bag , ended the vacation with a trip out on the water with the wife and for a brief moment the sonar gave hint to a striper school in 40 feet of water and caught my biggest striper on her pole , 7.11 , and 3 more bass at the days end for 7.14 .
All together a great trip with problems excluded , biggest bass was 4.5 , now to save up for next year and hopefully some new sonar equipment and another Skeet Reese rod .
