Wacky rig for all fish, not just bass
« on: November 19, 2018, 06:00:17 AM »
Just after the winter thaw, I went down to the pond and cast a mini-stick I made. Most of you are familiar with the Senko and the wacky rig using a wide gap hook
stuck in the center of the stick and letting it sink. The action is amazing! Okay, so why not a mini-stick rigged with a jig head stuck in the middle to make it fall fast
enough for the tip and body wobble to happen just like the Senko. First time I watched it sink -BAM! the action was exactly the same. Here's an example:

The lure is only 2.5" long, color not important. Even went to a clear stick with a bit of glitter:

After it caught fish, I experimented fusing grub bodies together using a candle flame (after removing the twister tails):

(The one on the right was rigged the regular way.)

First time out, the rig caught over 2 dozen fish/ four species including this cat fish and bass:

I found another yesterday that uses 2.5" stick with a light jighead:
As you may have seen, cone tail lures are one of my best discoveries and now I just came up with a double cone-tail that can be used wackly style on a 1/32 jig with #8 hook  or a wacky dropshot with a small single hook.

If the weather is decent, I'll test its action in the pond. Hell, a fish might even bite it !

Mini stick with end quiver has worked great; double cone tails I'm sure will do as well as the original if not better.

Does color matter when wacky rigging a Senko or other soft stick?
