Lowrance ?

Still learning my Low units. Humminbird spoiled me in terms of minimum key strokes. LOL. Anyway last night I was piddling around and I got what I thought was a fairly good display on the structure scan. I had the range going out 40' and I think the contrast was set between 50 & 60 %.  The down image however, wasn't so good. Not sure what to do about that. I have a couple questions.

Since I bought the boat used I'm not sure how to tell what ducers I have. I have the HDS5 up front and the HDS7 with insight on the console. I think they are both gen 1. They are somehow linked as I can get waypoints on both units and structure scan on both units.

How can I tell what info to select for transducer type.  My front unit is using a ducer built into the Motorguide 109 ? 36 volt digital tour.  My console unit has the structure scan ducer mounted on the rear of the boat.

I'm wondering if the transducers I have selected on the units is causing my down image to give a poor reading.  I haven't really looked into this issue on the front unit yet.

Is it possible to have a different contrast and or sensitivity setting for side scan and down scan ?

You don't have selection options for the ss ducers.  Which pallet color are you using?  Your contrast seems low to me.  I run the brown and keep low to mid 60s.  Sometimes I have to adjust due to water conditions.  Down scan is my main thing.  I use it instead of 2d.

How many lss boxes do you have?

Your units connect via Ethernet cables.

Dayne, I have the lss box in the starboard rod locker. Pretty sure it also has Ethernet. I can put up a pic next time I go back out.  Not sure what you mean when you say I don't have options for that ducer. Somewhere on both units there is a page with a drop down box that has a slew of choices for ducers. Don't I need to make sure it's the correct one selected.

Your screen shots are incredible ! Hopefully I'll eventually get dialed in and figure out how to do some of that myself. It just seems like so many keystrokes to find my way , way back in there to do something. Anyway , I notice in the 2nd and 3rd pic you have it set to 800 kHz. Is that where you normally run ? For some reason I was under the impression that the 455 setting was more desirable. I've got a lot to learn. I am using the brown pallet.

I'm gonna try to make it over to Kentucky Lake this weekend with my grandson . Maybe , just maybe I can figure how to make a screen capture or two and then it will give you an idea of what is going on. I've got a manual I printed so I'll try to read up so I can do the recording/screen capture.

When it comes to structure scan side or down is there a sensitivity adjustment or just contrast ?  Is ping speed adjustable also ? Sorry for so many questions.

Looks like I'm gonna be stuck with Lowrance for the next couple years so I better buck it up and try to learn them LOL.

One more question, I'm sure the answer is in my manual. Ha ha  My HDS7 has one map card slot I think. To record or screen snapshot do I have to remove the mapcard and insert a blank SD card ? My bird had 2 slots , one for a mapcard and one for a recording card.

Switch back and forth from 455 to 800.  See what you like best.  I run 800 most of the time.  Screen capture is done on the unit hard drive and you copy it to an sd card.

Those ducer options are for all of the different 2d ducers not lss.

Contrast is it.  All of the other stuff is for 2d.

I just bought a touch 9 and it is a whole new world over the Gen 1 hds units that I am used to using.
