Competitive shooting
« on: October 12, 2018, 07:05:11 AM »
So, I purchased my CC Pistol this past March, I promised myself that training must be a never ending thing with this new venture, since then I have put 5,200 rounds through it and utilized countless dry fire drills it would seem.

This past weekend I found a group of people who practice using IDPA/USPSA style events with safety being their number one priority.

I don’t know how many have ever tried this but this is a different world all together, it’s very challenging and forces one to make good use of all the skills we learn, it’s far different from the carry world that I have become accustomed to, I’m used to having a round in the chamber at all times for example.

I’ve learned through this group that there are differences in even the safety officers in such as how they want you to show clear, one may be ok with not having the slide locked as long as you hold the slide back, others want to physically put a finger in the ejection to ensure clear and require the slide to be locked, some won’t allow mags to be dropped with rounds in it and others do.

It’s great training non the less, I’ll admit that having done this for the first time around a group of strangers that nerves did seem to get the best of me but this group was very encouraging and gave truly great advice on skill sets.

I’m looking forward to the future and doing better at a lot of things, does anyone here do any competition shooting??

It sounds like a great bunch of folks to hang out around and learn new things.

Heading back down south the first weekend in November for anther go at this venue, I’ve been working on the dot torture drill among other things to help get me more in line with shooting this type of venue, hopefully I can do a little better this time around.

I finished second to last in my last visit with 19 people attending, lowest score was an 85.0, my score was a dismal 192.18, lots and lots.... and lots of improving to do, but hopefully I will have a chance to get out to the range tomorrow to get some multiple targets put up and do some work.

Y’all have a safe day !!
