Staying in That keeping it simple groove
« on: July 29, 2020, 03:40:07 PM »
KISS:  the older I get,the more this means to me. I am not a trophy guy,nor a tournament guy  I do not own a landing net, ruler or scale I am the DUKE OF DINK!!!!!  I catch fish, let em  go and everyone is happy happy
Over the years , when I fell for every hustle tackle manufacturers could invent, my tackle bag, that I use i=n the boat weighed  83 pounds, and I lost sight of myself
So upon arriving in Myrtle Beach and  retiring I DUMPED MOST OF IT and gave it  all to beginning  fishermen, local  kids and friends
I know this is sacrilegious  I am  done fishing deep water. I fish between the  shoe and no deeper then 8 to 10 feet I dont care  if everyone says thats not where they are in the summer, well That is not my experience  GONE are the plugs, jigs, spinner baits etc

My  Tackle bag has 5 X 3700 Utility Boxes now

Box 1. Terminal Tackle'
Box 2.  Sticks All Big Bite  3 x 5 inch and  and 3 x Six inch   In Green Pumpkin, Watermelon Red Flake and Watermelon Purple Swirl
Box 3.  Magnum worms '
Box  4. Zoom Trick worms,Zoom 9 1/2 ribbon tail  worm
Box 5. Jitter Bugs, Hula Poppers and no rattle square Bills

same for my shore back pack but much less
Life and fishing easy again, pics to follow

I often find that the more advanced we get with tackle the less success we enjoy the art of just fishing, I never had much luck with plugs, then again I never took the time to fully understand its advantages, I put a ton of time and effort into the world of crank baits, I still fish them I guess because I am not ready to give up on them, not yet anyway.

Maybe someday I will get to the point where you and Bud are, I can’t say that I am over loaded with tackle but I feel like I have just enough to cover my needs, I think if I am not mistaken that I have 15 of those boxes and the only ones that are packed to the gills are my terminal tackle, my jigs, my worms and my trailers, the rest I could almost use one hand to count what’s in the box’s.

Fishing is what makes you happy, it’s not about what everyone else wants you to have anyway, I have to admit Worm, I got a really good laugh out of the analogy you labeled yourself with “THE DUKE OF DINK” 😂😂😂😂

Dude that’s hilarious !!

Thanks for posting and thanks for the laughter, you made my day !!
Too much cause and effect thinking takes the freedom out of fishing- Bill Murphy

Oh I plan on it my friend, I have always enjoyed competition, this battle with these little green monsters is defiantly fulfilling, at the same time I am enjoying what I have always wanted to do and that’s tournament fishing, joining a club was one of those goals I had set but it had to be one with specifics, not too expensive etc... I wish I would have found this group years ago.

I am in the middle of the pack as far as points this season and learning more and more with each new body of water, I am happy with the way things are going and yet I remain excited to see what the future holds, hopefully by next season I will have my boat back in tip top shape to compete with these bass on my own, the K.I.S.S. you mentioned is something I believe has put me where I am with this group, it is the reason for the success.

If I had to choose one Pro angler that has really made an Impact on the way that I fish it would have to be Larry Nixon, that is one down to earth dude and in my opinion one of if not the best at fishing a worm.

You have an awesome day my friend !!!

I guess I am on the other end of that spectrum.  I am an equipment junky. I estimate around 1000 baits in the boat and at least 20 setups.  I don’t like to take the time to change baits so I rig multiple setups with different colors and sizes of the same bait.
If you're too busy to go fishin' you're too busy.

How many of those are on the deck Jig Man?

I’ve seen some that have that many on the deck at once, maybe more, I can’t do it man, I’d be knocking stuff overboard and stepping all over them bad boys 😂😂

I might have as much as 8 at one time but I prefer no more than 6 if I can.

I normally use 6 on deck.  All are rigged up differently.  When I find something that works, I like to put the extras away and pull out setups rigged like the working one.

For example,  if shaky is the ticket I have 3 spinning and 3 bc ready to come into service.
