Author Topic:  I don't feel that I should be honored for my time in the service  (Read 305 times)

Granted, I enlisted in 1969, had orders for Vietnam that were red lined (canceled) at the last minute and then worked in a hospital stateside until my discharge. But I was never in harm's way and instead worked a 9-5 job and got to be with my family during my whole tour of duty - unlike those that experienced the hell of war.

I know many that made the service a career and were always safe during the years served - unlike many reservists and active duty soldiers that were sent to war since 2002 and before. IMO, any honors should apply to those men and women that fought bravely, died or lived, but not me!

Controling your own destiny is not an option in the military, I never served but it wasnt because I didn’t try, I look at this differently as a civilian I guess, I will say that I wanted this badly, my family of men all served, my grandfather was shot several times paratrooping in WW2 on the way down, my uncles served in Vietnam, my dad served but never saw action, I guess this is why I have guilt for not being accepted by any branch.

Just because my dad never saw any action, my grandfather and my uncles never looked down on him, I was taught to respect those who served in ANY capacity by the greatest men ever, IMO, you took your duty to serve this country upon yourself by enlisting, that in and of itself deserves my utmost respect, God bless you for taking this countries oath to protect our freedoms.

All of you had a job to do, no matter what that job was, you took care of us, we are grateful for your courage and your passion to protect and serve the absolute greatest country on planet earth.

Support and honor all those who serve. They earned it. They deserve it. No exceptions.
