Another Daiwa on the way
« on: July 27, 2017, 01:52:43 PM »
I can't help myself.  Just had to pull the trigger on another Daiwa reel.  The one I got is so dang good had to get another one  This time I ordered the SV TW 103 XS.  Should be here on Monday.  I don't think I have been more pleased with a reel in my life.  Besides the reel monkey knocked on the door yesterday and he was carrying a gun and I had to buy another reel just to keep safe.

:D

Good to see you moving towards a good company's reels. Now hopefully for your sake you will sell all those lews before they start falling apart. Interesting that you said in another post that you're glad you never bought revos. But the thing is, you did. Lews and abu revos are the same reel is separate packaging.

Well how about that.  Thanks for the information Kevin.  I did not know that Lews and the Revo were the same reel just dressed a bit differently.

Do you believe the 1st gen Revo's were a better product than 2nd and 3rd? I feel like they started off well and went sharply downhill to appeal to the masses.

You would have to go model by model to compare them, and that's a lot of reels. Some are worse than others. Some of the cheaper ones are better than some of the expensive ones because they charge more for lighter reels made out of lighter materials, but that also means more plastic parts.

my main problem with all the brands of reels that come from the Korean manufacturing plant are the thumb bar and clutch design that's universal to several brands and almost every reel they sell. It's completely plastic from the thumb to the clutch with several parts that flex and rub on each other. The pads beside the thumb bar get scratched up and the sides of the thumb bar get worn easily. The plastic bar they push on flexs and loses it's shape over time. This results in sticking and loose clutch's. Diawa, shimano and even quantum uses a much stronger clutch system.
