Bought a Daiwa
« on: July 19, 2017, 07:48:47 AM »
I just ordered a new Daiwa SV TW 103 HS Reel.  Up until now all of my reels are Lews so the Daiwa will be quite a change for me.  I really wanted to try out the SV Spool.  The reel should be here on Monday or so but since the weather will be so hot I won't be fishing anyway.

My Target use for this reel is for my Fall visit to Guntersville.  During that time frogging in the mats with long casts is the order of the day and this reel seems to offer some performance features that should help this process.  Only time will tell if this was a good buy but many folks have told me that I won't be disappointed.  I hope they are right.

I have never owned any high end Daiwas. I did have a mid range Daiwa baitcaster of about $100 and I was not pleased with it at all. I ended up trading it within the first month of owning it for a Shimano.

Now with that being said, my oldest reel is a Daiwa. I use it EVERY time I go fishing too. It is a Daiwa Tournament SS Spinning Reel that I bought back in 1991. It works as good today as it did when I purchased it 26 years ago. If that is not a golden testimonial for Daiwa, I do not know what is. ;)

I'd really  like to know how your new reel performs Bud.  (y)

I have been fussing with myself for a few months about giving this reel a try but the recommendations were just so strong and my research indicated that it would be worth the try.  The prices of the TaT s have dropped significantly to the point that I would not call this a high end casting reel but more a mid grade.  The to my door price was $134.00 and although not cheap it is in the range where I would take a chance.  I had been looking at quite a few different reels from Lews to Shimanos and this Daiwa seems to have a lot of very strong features that appeal to me but mostly the SV Spool.  So many of the Shimano reels that I would consider are just out of my price range even though many folks swear by them I guess they would have been ok also.  My Lews reels have always been very good especially the BB1 pro and if this does not work out that is what I will probably get next.

The reel has arrived and I must say it is a thing of beauty.  Fit and finish of this product is absolutely perfect.  It is a bit smaller than I anticipated and that is a good thing.  It fits in my hand just right.  I don't think I have ever received a new reel that is as smooth as this one is.  So far everything is absolutely perfect and could not be more pleased.  I am gonna spool it up tomorrow and take it out to the front yard and make some casts.  Here are a couple pics.

I'm happy for you Bud.  I hope you can get the bass out of the grass on Guntersville.  Nice looking reel.  I just hope it performs up to your expectations.
Put a rod in my hand and a boat under my feet and watch me catch bass.

That T-Wing seemed like a gimmick when it first came out but I have 2 Tatula's now and there is no other reel that is as smooth for casting. Period. Durability and tolerances...well...that remains to be seen. I'm using both for pitching applications have have jacked a fair number of jaws. I wouldn't be hesitant to purchase again.

Daiwa is one of the two best reels in the market, the other being Shimano. You'll never go back to a Korean made reel!
