New Rod Tomorrow
« on: August 20, 2017, 06:29:15 PM »
My new Dobyns Fury 735C is supposed to be delivered tomorrow.  Been very excited to get it as it will be my Frog, pitching, flipping rod for Guntersville in the fall.  I am gonna marry it to the Daiwa TWSV103XS.  This is my first Dobyns and have heard a lot of great things about them so I decided to give it a try and fill a void in my rod collection.  I had already ordered some ProZ frogs in the scooby doo color also for Guntersville and they arrived last wednesday.  So, all in all I am all set for Guntersville except for waiting for the last week in October.  This is always a much anticipated trip each year.  At my age one never knows when trips like this will no longer be possible but for now I can give it hell.  With a little luck the weather will be just right and a little bit of light rain would make it perfect and a whole lot cooler than present temps.  We had another 100 degree heat index today.  Sure am getting tired of it.  Come on fall.

Sound good Bud. Glad the wait is coming to a close for you. I also have a tough time waiting for tackle to arrive. Good luck with the rod and be waiting for the pictures of your trip. That is if  can wait. :lmao:
Everyone has to believe in something. I believe I'll go Fishin.

UPS just dropped off the Dobyns Fury 735C that I bought from Monster Fishing Tackle.  The Shipping package was fully intact and the rod inside is undamaged and good to go..  Total shipping time from the West Coast to Myrtle Beach was 1 week.  Good performance by all parties.

The rod is not a high end product but is very nice and will meet my needs just fine.  I was surprised that it fits into my rod rack without any problems.  This certainly is not the quality of my Lee Smith rods but then again there is a difference in the comparative price.  I am going to install a Daiwa TWSV103XS on this rascal and give it a whirl in the front yard casting range.  I am anxious to find out how it feels and how it casts.  All in all it seems to be a good purchase and represents my first Dobyns product.

The rod has turned out to be a good purchase.  I did use it at Guntersville to sling some frogs and have no complaints at all.  The few fish that I caught hooked up nicely thanks to the rod's heavy backbone.  Since then I have used it for some crankbaits and of course the good ol whopper plopper.  Given the design purpose of the rod I give it high marks and would recommend it to anyone.  I am gonna buy another one soon but this time I am gonna get a 704C.  Just want a rod a bit shorter than the 735.  I can get a 705C but I have to step up from a Fury series to a Sierra series to get a 5 power.  Not sure that would be worth it to me for most of my fishing.
Although I do like the 735 fact is that it is just a bit too long for my boat.  My old ranger (dual console) just does not have enough deck length where it will fit safely. The 7' rods are just about the max for me.
I bought my Dobyns Fury through Monster fishing tackle and with my 11% discount plus free shipping over $50. it was a good purchase.  Monster delivered very quickly as they always do.
