[International] Fishing On Military Bases
« on: July 12, 2015, 03:58:36 PM »
Having served in the Army for 7 1/2 years from the late 1970's to the mid-1980's, I had the chance to fish on several Army bases.

Unfortunately...9/11 changed that a great deal for civilians.

However...there are STILL opportunities...AND ways to fish on bases.

Tip #1

If you live near a base, or are going to visit an area close to a base, contact the Recreation Department at the SPECIFIC base. They should be able to tell you IF civilians have access for fishing.

Tip #2

Many bases have fishing "clubs". Contact them and do your best to "make friends". Offering a seat in your boat or being willing to share your tackle / teach a technique could be your ticket onto a base. "Word of mouth" advertising after that could trigger friendships that could last years  ;)

Tip #3

Do a search for military-related fishing websites such as the Army Bass Anglers and contact them.

I do NOT know of any website that has a list of "civilian-access" bases (sad face)

If you are retired military or a DOD employee or retired DOD you have a right to hunt and fish in any military post.  Check the regulations on the post to get the correct information.
Put a rod in my hand and a boat under my feet and watch me catch bass.

I'm retired DOD and former 4+ years military, grew  up a base brat  on Andrews AFB, and fished there a lot a kid.  They won't even let me on base, and I worked there 17 years.
