craw 2

I got the laminate plate done and spent some time experimenting.  I wanted a 1 color claw with a light belly and dark back.  I experimented with it and couldn't get the claw to adhere to the craw except on one side.  So I decided to just make a top sided claw with the bottom being the same as the belly.  That way I could get both sides to fuse to the claw.  I shot a double sided red craw.  Then I cut off the claw on the top and shot the top side with the laminate plate still on.  The red belly was in the mold so the top color couldn't get in.  Lastly I pulled the plate and the red belly and shot the yellow belly.  As you can see the yellow turned the red claw to orange and the top color sucked most of the orange color from the belly.

I have all of Jan and Feb to get this worked out.  I think it will be fun to experiment with color schemes.

I discovered something different this morning.  I was double shooting trying to get a swirl (most of my other molds give a swirl this way).  It turns out that this mold does a perfect laminate.  So I won't need the laminate plate for most applications.  I shot red for pincers and kept one in the mold.  I did the brown/yellow shoot and it did a perfect laminate and stuck to the pincer.

I pulled it out put the other pincer in the mold and shot again.
