13th at the BFL on Kentucky Lake
« on: June 21, 2018, 07:31:30 AM »
Saturday the 16th I fished the BFL on Kentucky Lake. With my new job I had no time to practice and the lake was fishing tough from all the reports. I needed to catch a couple fish to try and make some ground up as I was sitting in 66th place over all and need to be in the top 45 to qualify for the regional.

I figured I would say close from the take off and get as much fishing time in as possible. My first spot was a bust. The next area I went to produced a keeper bit, which felt like a good fish but I lost it before I ever saw it. My co angler boated a 4# and he was on cloud 9. Unfortunately he lost a 5# at the boat that would have put him in the top 10.  We went two more places and nothing. Next spot, my co catches a couple shorts. It was a warm day, felt like 104. At this point I had nothing to show for. I cast out my TX rigged worm and sat down to get a drink of water. I felt a bit and set the hook, it was a good fish and I thought it might not be a bass. Well it was a bass and a 5#, I am on the board. Could not get another bite at that spot. Co had a spot close by and we went there. I picked up two more keepers and both of us catch shorts. Move back to where I caught my 5# and co breaks off 2 fish, I catch shorts. Move back to where I got two keepers and only find shorts.
Time is running out. We move back to where co caught his 4# and only find shorts. I have less then 30 minutes and 3 fish in the box. Move to last spot and with 10 minutes left put a 2.5# in the boat. I am desperately trying to get my 5th fish, I hook up with 2 minute left, but it's a short.
I ended the day with 13 pounds on 4 fish, earned my best finish in BFL, and a check. I also moved up from 66th to 33rd in standings.
Life is good.
